About us

East Sound Research was founded in 1990 by the tech and sound enthusiast extraordinaire, Søren Jongberg, who is today highly recognized and appreciated by musicians worldwide as the man behind a long line of renowned and even legendary Carl Martin products.
 

Originally, East Sound Research was established as a rental company for PA systems. However, Søren Jongberg’s deep passion for electronics and sound meant that shortly after its inception in 1990, East Sound Research also began developing and producing various audio equipment. In 1993, East Sound Research launched the first Carl Martin effects pedal, named Hot Drive’n Boost. Since then, around 50 different Carl Martin pedals have been created, along with a handful of handcrafted, point-to-point tube amplifiers and cabinets.
 

In 2023, Søren Jongberg sadly passed away far too soon, leaving behind an exceptionally respected company with countless well-known and lesser-known musicians as loyal users of their Carl Martin products.
 

For many years, Søren Jongberg had a close collaboration with the music company DanGuitar.dk, located just a stone’s throw from East Sound Research in Grenaa, Denmark. Therefore, it was a natural choice for Søren Jongberg’s family to transfer the entire Carl Martin company to Thomas Svenstrup, the owner of DanGuitar.dk, in 2024.
 

Thomas Svenstrup continues the Carl Martin legacy with the same passion and dedication as before but also aims to improve and expand the Carl Martin product range in the future. The new team behind Carl Martin includes some of the technicians who have already been part of designing and developing Carl Martin products for a couple of decades and who, together with Søren Jongberg, are responsible for several of the legendary Carl Martin pedals.
